Danger to Democracy

The danger to democracy is not so much from outside as it is from within, in the USA.

Democratic principles require that after the elections (a) the winner must accept the victory gratefully and the loser must accept the defeat gracefully, (b) all politicking must stop and all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation, must support and cooperate with the elected officials.

American democracy is running counter to these principles and running the risk of losing it.  Let us not blame other countries; let us look at ourselves.

A few glaring examples:

1       1. Hillary Clinton talked against President Trump in Mumbai, India, on March12, 2018.  It is a grave mistake to complain against the President in a foreign land.

2     2.   Over sixty Congress members did not attend the inauguration ceremony of President Trump, not accepting him as the President.

3      3.  In opposition to President Trump, some cities and states are declaring themselves sanctuaries for illegal immigrants;

4      4.  Personal insults of elected officials by the comedians abusing the freedom of speech to ruin their public image and thus obstructing their performance of public duties.

5     5.   Congress in-fighting on tribal issues, ignoring the national issues in need of timely decisions.  
   
We strongly recommend that the investigations be wound up quickly.  The elected leaders may pay attention to mend the splits within the nation and adopt/enforce laws to unify the nation.  American Constitution will have to be either reinterpreted or reconstituted.  For the survival of democracy, quality control as well as much greater accountability must be required of all public employees---both elected and those in civil service.
