Religion can be man’s best friend or worst enemy. It can draw the best or the worst out of man. Quite often, it is not so much what we do not know that creates problems as it is what we know may not be so. But we are seldom inclined to reexamine ourselves.
What religion is to man, written constitution is to a democratic nation. It can be its savior or destroyer. The constitutionalists cannot keep up with the fast changing world now. They still like to use the spirit of the constitution of the time it was written in. They limit the powers of government from taking timely action for national security. They justify their actions as the greatness of the nation.
Under such conditions, democracy fuels the very foe it fears the most.
The times are changing with a lightening speed. Get rid of the fog of “political correctness”. The written constitutions may not accommodate the new situations. The democratic systems must be critically examined for their weaknesses. They must be strengthened to face securely the new situations. Most democratic systems seem to carry the seeds of civil unrest. Ignoring the opportunities to refine the constitutions may cost heavily, later.
