A Powerful National Election Commission Needed
By T.S.Khanna, August 22, 2012.

Every time, during the elections, two weaknesses of the democratic system become obvious: manipulating candidates and the manipulated voters.

Money talks but campaign money shouts at voters with creative lies and distorted facts by votaries of the political parties.  In American culture, parents feel embarrassed when their children tell lies but political parties and their candidates feel proud when their well crafted lies, are consumed by the gullible voters.  A land of promise is filled with false promises.

In the absence of any “truth/facts-protection-mechanism”, truth is the first casualty, crushed to dust not to surface again.  Each party and the candidates lavishly spend the supporters’ donations on unregulated, indecent false propaganda in slandering the opposing candidates and fooling the voters.

Non-partisan voters committed to making a rational judgment based on true facts, feel lost in the continuous bombardment of falsehood during the elections.  Election time always becomes an open season for abusing the freedom of speech without accountability.

To protect the nation from its political parties, a powerful non-partisan National Election Commission is sine qua non.  The proposed Commission may be appointed by the Supreme Court to function under its direct control, independent of the Congress and politics.  The Commission may have the powers to
·       Make rules- regulations  ensuring that only authenticated facts are presented in the campaigns;
·       Eliminate voting fraud;
·       Act as umpire and disqualify instantly the non-conforming candidates;
·       Improve the quality of the candidates and the voters by creating, setting, and enforcing qualifying requisites for them.
